:: Activities ::

So you want to know what we do then? Well you're in the right place! The society meets regulary and undertakes many different activities, all fun of course. We do not meet on the same day each week so as to give as many people the chance to turn up to the events. Our meeting places vary as much as the days do and we meet all over Cathays and Roath with some activities further afield we use the unions minibuses.

Not all members are or have been a member of the Scout Association or GirlGuiding UK, however as a Scout and Guide society you can appreciate most of our members are and our activities reflect this.

The first event of the year is the Freshers pub crawl, a crash course to the pubs of studentville and the first opportunity for new and exisiting members to meet again and start to get to know each other. Following shortly afterwards the society goes away on Freshers camp, its purpose is to introduce the new members to the rest of the society and for the existing members to meet again after the summer vacation for a weekend of enjoyment and games.

In the Autumn, Spring and Summer all the university societies meet up for Rally, each rally is held in a different part of the country depending on where the organising club is from. A guarenteed must for all, with silly games, competitions and a barn dance what more could you want... oh and the other thing it's usually cold, muddy and even below freezing!

A new addition to the SSAGS calendar is Winter Camp, held after the first semester exams in January the society goes back to nature for a traditional Scout and Guide camp in the great outdoors. An excellent chance to relive those camps of old and ideal for those who love to get dirty, messy and love fire!

Throughout the rest of the year the society is very active with activities ranging from bowling, ice skating and climbing to site service and aiding groups in the county when needed. The activities vary and so do the nights they are held to try and ensure everyone can attend and can take part in an activity that they like. Nine times out of ten we usually end up in pub, more likely the Taf at the union where the point of no return is met and we all end up in Jive!

Finally at the end of the year when the exams have finished and it no longer rains in Cardiff it means only one thing, the end of term BBQ. The final farewell to those leaving university and trying the work laugh or just heading out for placement years and a last chance to see those friends you've made during the coarse of the year. A time for party and reflection on how quickly the years flown by and how much money has gone on alcohol! Well some more than others :-)
